Dentist Visit

With all of the sweets that I love, I have no choice but to adhere to the twice-yearly visits to my dentist. I have had nearly every tooth filled, but no matter how much I brush and floss, I still need professional cleanings. Lucky for me, I have a dentist who I like and trust, so these visits are, as funny as it may sound, something that I look forward to for many reasons.

First of all, before I enter the office for the appointment, there is the best stationery store right next door. It is called The Paper Mill, and it has been there since I was a little kid. There are the cutest planners, cards, pens (including Le Pen – which I love), sealing wax and stamps, stickers, and a slew of other tchotchkes that I could spend hours wading through.

Next, who doesn’t love all of those magazines on display in the waiting room at the dentist office? It’s so relaxing to skim all of the articles that I normally wouldn’t see unless I was there. Unfortunately, I must have spent too much time at the stationery store before my last visit because as soon as I arrived, they got me right in. That’s really actually not such a bad thing :).

I also equate a professional dental cleanings to the feeling that I get after having received a haircut. It makes me feel so fresh and so clean-clean. I never want to eat or drink anything afterward so that I don’t mess up my teeth.

Last but not least, there’s Cathy. Cathy is my dentist’s wife and partner at his practice. Cathy is the person who does the actual cleaning. Cathy makes me feel welcome and comfortable, just as if I was a guest at her house. It’s almost like Cheers there, the way that they make me feel remembered and pleased to see me. During a past visit, I was in the process of putting together my home office. I had been looking everywhere for a sturdy executive desk. After having checked Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, Ikea, Restoration Hardware, and others, I was left at what seemed to be a dead-end. Cathy referred me to Home Decorators Collection. It was from here that my worries subsided, and I found the desk. Other home decorating sites to which she has referred me from our last visit include ballarddesigns.com, onekingslane.com and McKenzieChilds.com. On top of decorating referrals, I recently learned that Cathy shares a similar enjoyment of recipes as I do. She told me about a lovely dinner she attended at a friend’s house where the host had served Marinated Flank Steak, Watermelon Arugula Salad, and a Quinoa Mint Salad. After my cleaning, Cathy printed out a Peach Cobbler recipe for me to take home. I was thrilled when she later texted me the recipes that we had spoken about as she and Dr. Lowery drove to visit their son in Indiana. Here are some that she had sent…

Not only did I leave their office confident and healthier, but I also left with a bunch of ideas for dinner. I must admit that I did have a glass of red wine that evening, which I’m sure didn’t do anything for my recent cleaning, but I have to say that I felt doubly compelled to floss that night. Hopefully that wont keep me away from another visit for too long!
